The hackers even demanded for ransom through Bitcoin just to give back the access. A user named “double flag” even approached Vocativ, which is an online news website, giving them an offer.
Vocativ was told by the hackers that they can access 68 million accounts from DropBox. They need 2 Bitcoin in order to give back those accounts.
$1,100 is the equivalent amount of 2 Bitcoin.
4. The Hacking of Target Corporation in 2013
Target was on of the biggest online stores which was greatly affected after the hacking in December 2013.
There were 110 million of records that were accessed by the hackers.
Over 40 million debit card numbers and credit card numbers were opened by the hackers, which had such a great effect to the company and their clients. It is such a tragedy since the incident happened during the Christmas holiday.
It even continued in January 2014 wherein there were already 70 million of Target’s customers were hacked, getting their addresses, full names, and phone numbers.
After that, many people were beginning to think if DropBox really had an issue with regard to their security. One of the reasons is that the disclosure of the data was given out late.
5. LinkedIn was Hacked in 2012

This data breach has affected 165 million LinkedIn accounts. It was first reported that there were only 6.5 million hacked accounts, which eventually grew after that.
